Anthony Shaun Davis better known as Dave Davis

Sadly Dave (aged 72 years) died on 24 August 2017 with his family at his side. He leaves his wife of 51 years Margaret, 2 daughter's Beverley and Joanne and granddaughter Ruby.

Dave grew up in High Wycombe and attended Hatters Lane School although the term attended can be used loosely as he was not one for the confines of the classroom preferring to be outside. He was very sports orientated throughout his life and played rugby for the Army in Prop position.

Dave enlisted in Army Boy Service at Reading on 9/9/1960 and after 3 years joined the Regular Army becoming a Paratrooper and going on to qualify as a Chef. Serving tours in Bahrain, Aden, Canada, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Malaysia and several of Northern Ireland. His Certificate of Service describes Sgt Davis as having "Exemplary" military conduct and being "industrious, loyal and cooperative giving excellent service to the army". He left the army in March 1979 with the following awards: Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GSM Clasp South Arabia and GSM Clasp Northern Ireland.

He was indeed a loyal man and although he also had a habit of losing things (including above mentioned medals) he never lost his friends and maintained friendships with fellow recruits from Boy Service and the Paras. He became a member of the Yorkshire Branch of the Airborne Engineers Association and enjoyed reunions and AGMs.

On leaving the army he relocated to the North East where he remained and worked for the National Coal Board until he was made redundant and then joined the Estates Team at the University of Northumbria. He was an avid stamp collector and was passionate about sport although as a spectator in his later years. He was able to enjoy retirement living life to the full and will be a great miss for family and friends.
