Lieutenant G H Franklin

 

Frankie or George Franklin died on 7th December 2012 after a number of years of poor health. His private funeral took place on 19th December 2012.

He was born in Bristol, moved to Hastings, and attended The Grammar School, Hastings. On leaving school in 1937 he went to the Hastings School of Art, and qualified as an Architect.

He joined the Corps and on commissioning in September 1944 was posted to 3 Parachute Squadron RE when they regrouped on their return from Normandy.

He took part in the Battle of The Bulge, jumped in the Rhine Crossing, and continued as a Section Officer in 2 Troop to the end of the war in Europe. Post VJ Day he went with 6th Airborne to Java. On demob he went to India where he was engaged for many years in designing and building schools, hospitals, and other community buildings. He leaves a widow, Sylvia, and two children.
