Harry Knowles - 3 Para Sqn RE

Harry passed away on 3rd April 2018 a couple of weeks before his 96th birthday.

Born and bred in South Wales, he worked in a local steelworks before joining the army. After Hardwick Hall and
Ringway he joined No. 1 Troop 3rd Para Sqn RE in April 1943. With the Sqn he saw service in Normandy, Ardennes, Rhine, Far East and Palestine.

On leaving the army in 1947 he returned to South Wales, attended night school and became a school teacher in S.E. London, where he met and married and raised a family.

He was a record attendee at 6th A/B Division RE reunion dinners and Normandy commemorations until ill health took its toll.
A keen cyclist in his early days he toured Europe on his bicycle. He also taught martial arts at a youth club local to where he lived.
Harry was very proud to have been a Para Engineer, and will be greatly missed by the few of us left. To his widow and children we offer our sincere condolences. RIP Harry (Bob Sullivan)
