Airborne Engineers Association

Roll of Honour

Joe Timberlake

Joe sadly passed away on 4th June 2015. He was a close friend of John Parker and Lawrence Long. Joe served with 9 AB Sqn during the period 1946-48; serving the latter part of his time with airborne forces in Palestine.

He was a regular attendee at AEA reunion weekends and for many years accompanied John Parker for their annual pilgrimage to Arnhem and Oosterbeek. His presence at the Arnhem commemoration was sadly missed by both his former comrades and the Dutch friends with whom he had made a strong bond of friendship over previous years.

As a close friend, John Parker had visited Joe while he had been hospitalised. Having visited him on the Thursday Joe handed John a list of things he needed for his release from hospital the following week. Sadly on John's return the next day he was informed that Joe had peacefully passed away.
Joe's funeral was held in Preston with family members in attendance together with representatives from the Blackpool REA, Morecombe PRA and lads from the Yorkshire area.

Joe's affection for Airborne Engineers is reflected in his bequest that a donation of £240 be allocated from his estate to the Airborne Engineers Association. God bless you Joe.
