Roll of Honour

 

 

Henry Warren

 

Henry, better known as Bill died suddenly in his adopted country of Australia on 23rd April 2000. He was 79 years old. He was born in Liverpool but moved south to the Isle of Wight when in his teens to get work in the shipyards.

At the outbreak of war he volunteered for the Royal Engineers and soon found himself in France with the British Expeditionary Force. Along with thousands of other British soldiers he was evacuated back to the UK via the beaches of Dunkirk. He then joined the 1st Parachute Squadron and saw active service in North Africa, Italy and Sicily. In 1944 he joined the 1st SAS Regiment and served with that Regiment until the end of the war.

After various forms of employment he immigrated with his family to Australia in 1968. finally settling in the state of Victoria.

His ashes have been returned to the Isle of White and scattered by members of his family, who reside there.

To his wife Peggy, daughter Noela, sons Rodney, Austin and Graham, the members of the Association extend their sincere condolences
